The Trip

What kind of vehicle should I register for Destination Outback?

add remove

Destination Outback is not a race nor is it a rally. All vehicles must be road worthy, registered and drivers must obey the traffic rules and hold a driver's licence.

Police are entitled to prosecute drivers of cars with blue lights, revolving lights of any colour, sirens or devices that produce smoke.

We will be driving on dirt roads so 4WD and AWD vehicles will handle this type of terrain much more safely than 2WD so please do not register your 2WD. You require at least one full size spare tyre.

For safety reasons, an installed UHF 40 or more channel radio is compulsory in all vehicles. (Handheld radios are not acceptable, due to range restrictions).

Vehicles, including UHF radios and registration papers, must be available for inspection prior to the start.

You will need a minimum insurance of third-party property insurance.

Will I be able to easily fuel up on the trip?

add remove

At the start of the trip we will give you our Destination Outback magazine. The magazine will give you thorough route notes including suggestions of where you should stop to fuel up your vehicle.

Remember, make sure you check what fuel the vehicle you are in takes, if you fuel up with petrol, when you should have fueled up with diesel you will get stuck waiting for help as engine problems ensue!
